The Sims should be inclusive
Hi, in my opinion, The Sims should be more realistic in terms of the characters. Everyone should agree that sims should have imperfections and disabilities.
Because not every sim should be perfect. Sims characters should have things like:
- Crooked nose, Uneven lips. Scoliosis.
- Women should have breasts that grow abnormally and look uneven. I mean we already have body hair in the newest update so I don't need to mention that.
- Amputations and real life situations causing an amputation.
- Hearing Aids, Sign language. Sim struggling to speak due to having a speech problem from being deaf.
- Genetic Disorders. Such as Dwarfism, Autism, ADHD, Depression, BPD, Bipolar, etc.
- Birth Defects. One arm is shorter than the other, one leg grows at a slower rate, extra fingers, cleft lip. Option for surgery to fix most of these problems, and prosthetics.
- Down Syndrome.
- Learning Difficulty, Developmental Delay. Sims learning at a slower pace than others. Special Education.
- Paraplegics. An option for the sim to go to the toilet in the wheelchair and change the bag after stooling, also known as colostomy. (this should be censored in the game)
- Disability Parking and a Parking Permit. Option to apply for one.
- Support Workers, Teachers Aides. Option for children and parents to make friends with Teachers Aides.
- Options for a sim to help someone with a disability. Calling emergency services, Helping them pick something up, asking to help them up the stairs, Push their wheelchair. Help bath them, etc.
- Funding for the disability since it's hard for most people with a disability to find work.
- Hand railings in bathroom and mobility friendly options. Vehicles made to store wheelchairs, Wheelchairs, Canes, Walkers, obviously.
- Mental health courses, Psychology.
I myself suffer from ADHD and I have tried my best to describe these things without being too rude. But I believe that people with these disabilities should be normalised and not refused from a simulator game. Many of these should not be graphic but something educational for people who don't have disabilities like we do.
I agree, I would love it if there were more inclusive things in the Sims. However, some of the suggestions you mention would be very difficult, if not impossible to realistically put into the game.
- Crooked nose, Uneven lips. Scoliosis.
Nose and lips are a no-brainer. In fact, they already exist (as CC). Sims 4 also has a back slider that could be expanded for Scoliosis
- Women should have breasts that grow abnormally and look uneven. I mean we already have body hair in the newest update so I don't need to mention that.
Don't see this as being an issue either. Just an individual breast slider.
- Amputations and real life situations causing an amputation.
Prosthetic leg/arm accessory? For sure. I think having just a stump could be more difficult (as they'd have to make a ton of new animations to account for it?).
Amputation events, I don't think that would really fit with the sims (a bit too dark) but probably a CC thing. Plus having that randomly happen to a sim would probably upset people, but having a "limb regrow" potion could possibly be a thing. They can also have this be auto populated into townies.
- Hearing Aids, Sign language. Sim struggling to speak due to having a speech problem from being deaf.
Hearing aids can easily be an accessory, in fact they already exist with CC. Sign language should be a relatively simple animation to add to talking. Speech problems may need new lines recorded or filtered, but wouldn't be too hard.
- Genetic Disorders. Such as Dwarfism, Autism, ADHD, Depression, BPD, Bipolar, etc.
So, most of these could be done with traits (or whatever the sims 5 has like that). CC creators would probably make most of these.
However, altering the height makes issues with the animation. You can see it in height adjustment mods on the sims 4-- unless it's a tiny difference, most animations will clip and look wonky. for instance, two sims will kiss but one sim is kissing into the head of the shorter one.
- Birth Defects. One arm is shorter than the other, one leg grows at a slower rate, extra fingers, cleft lip. Option for surgery to fix most of these problems, and prosthetics.
Limb lengths again is the issue of matching up animations. Extra fingers, same thing. Cleft lip is probably fine. though, it may not fit in with the aesthetic of the sims. For the same reason we don't have miscarriages. However, it would be easy to add a cleft lip scar as CC.
- Down Syndrome. / Learning Difficulty, Developmental Delay. Sims learning at a slower pace than others. Special Education.
I combined these two-- it'd be nice if there were sims, in general, who learned at different paces. In the sims 4, we already have interests (and dis-interests) that could be expanded or used for this. cc would probably be pretty easy to do it.
- Paraplegics. An option for the sim to go to the toilet in the wheelchair and change the bag after stooling, also known as colostomy. (this should be censored in the game)
I think this would be a little bit too dark for the sims, maybe? Also, extra animations.
- Disability Parking and a Parking Permit. Option to apply for one.
Would be fine, even if it was just for flavor purposes.
- Support Workers, Teachers Aides. Option for children and parents to make friends with Teachers Aides.
This could probably be added as a service, like the maid, cleaner, caterer, etc.
- Options for a sim to help someone with a disability. Calling emergency services, Helping them pick something up, asking to help them up the stairs, Push their wheelchair. Help bath them, etc.
I think needing emergency services would be too dark for the sims. And needing to pick things up may be too complex? many of these things are possibly too complex. Though it'd be nice if sims can yell at overzealous people trying to "help."
- Funding for the disability since it's hard for most people with a disability to find work.
Welfare is definitely possible, but if people can't get a job in sim world that kind of introduces the concept of discrimination, which I don't think would fit.
- Hand railings in bathroom and mobility friendly options. Vehicles made to store wheelchairs, Wheelchairs, Canes, Walkers, obviously.
Hand railings, ramps and such? Sure, why not! Handrails and such already exist as CC though they are mostly just for flavor.
Wheelchairs would be easy, the sim in question can just take the sitting pose like in a chair, so making this an animation would be easy. Electric wheelchairs or self-propelled.
Canes, walkers, would be nice but perhaps too much new animations.
- Mental health courses, Psychology.
I can't see why that couldn't be a skill or interest though not sure what it would actually do. perhaps be used to buff people who are "sad" or calm people who are "angry", etc?
-I myself suffer from ADHD and I have tried my best to describe these things without being too rude.
Me too. ADHD, and Autism. I don't think it was rude at all.
- But I believe that people with these disabilities should be normalised and not refused from a simulator game.
I agree, though I think in the past, a lot of the issue is just technical restrictions. For instance, whilst being transgender is obviously not a disability, the game added transgender options. So, they are clearly not opposed to being inclusive when it's possible.
-Many of these should not be graphic but something educational for people who don't have disabilities like we do.
I agree. Especially since a lot of kids play the sims. It would be nice if the newer generations could grow up understanding things a bit better.
