- RadioAC5 years agoNew VanguardI had to double check because I can never remember if it was 2001 or 2002 but it was The Sims 2 House Party Pack with base game before they added Livin' Large to the bundle so that was 2002 and I know it was around February/March because it was a few weeks after I had bought my own PC which was second hand so even though Vacation came out around the time I started playing I could only fit up to and including Hot Date on there but downtown ran like a snail, I'm surprised I had the patience for it.
I ended up buying a new computer I think a year later to be ready for Sims 2 when it came out and of course adding all of the Sims 1 packs that I was missing. I remember buying Makin' Magic on launch day and that was so exciting. - Specifically "The Sims", in 2000. But I've been with Maxis longer than EA has.

I find the survey surprising and interesting. I just assumed that most of the original players have moved on to other things, and the typical TS4 player only found the series in the past few years. I was totally wrong. Most of us are long-timers. - Last February
- goodfellowe5 years agoNew AceI was obsessed with the Sims for years before I got my hands on The Sims 3, watching my friend play, spending hours on the wiki on my mother’s Nokia Touchscreen and dreaming about how the LPs I watched would continue. I got my hands on TS3 sometime during 2012-2013 and was hooked ever since, even when I spent my first year or so without any expansions, stuff packs, or the knowledge of mods. 8-9 years later, and I’m still completely hooked, even if it tends to come in more intense waves of love and passion than something steady and simple (and that’s on the spectrum, luv x).
- netney525 years agoSeasoned AceI think it’s 2000 or at the very latest 2001 from memory. It’s when sims 1 came out and had no expansions. I remember being in primary school which I left in 2002 to start secondary school and I was definitely playing the game before then.
- I played The Sims for the first time before its first expansion came out. It was the year 2000 and I was 12 years old. I played Sim city 3000 before I played The Sims. It was a very exciting and nostalgic time for me. The Sims was such a fun and addicting game. It brings so many good memories. My mom loved the game too.
- Goodness guys, my smile is so big right now going down that memory lane?. My son first introduced me to the game, though it was my sister who really got me playing. I use to play this game so much that I would dream of my Sims! I loved playing and going to the forum to read what other Sim players were doing. Often someone from Max is would come on to chat and ask what we wanted. We loved them and their work was on point!! The Sims 1 was fun but when they come out with The Sims 2!!!! Wow. 3&4 are good because of its graphics. Enjoyed 3 way more than 4, color wheel but 2 is still my favorite.
- NikkeiSimmer5 years agoLegend2017 (started playing Sims 3) - after suffering a near-fatal bout with pneumonia (near total lung-blockage); was too busy raising a family and earning money till then. I was a thirty year old adult when Sims 1 came out (working in real estate); My wife @Featherbelle had our second child the year Sims 2 came out so I was too busy helping to raise our children back then to bother with Sims 2. Started a photography business in 2006 and was busy with that through 2009 when Sims 3 came out. Still was too busy with photography in 2014 when Sims 4 came out.
Won't buy Sims 4 at all. the lacklustre and linear "drag players around by the nose" gameplay gives me no interest and I'm not tossing money into the garbage. Especially not one red cent of what I worked my *** off for.
