I don't know. The last time some one asked about an online component there was a lot of negative posts. It seems most simmers would prefer their own worlds. I personally would like to see an interactive world maybe. But my concern is how it would be controlled. Sony had it on the PS3 (Playstation@home) but shut it down. Will Wright the creator of the sims last I know was on the board of directors at Linden Labs (Second Life). Its been tried several times just doesn't seem to take hold.
It'd have to compete with Second Life, which it can't, and when Sims Online existed there wasn't enough interest to remotely warrant the cost of keeping it running, thus the shutdown. It takes a lot of money to run and support an online game and even if EA could in theory afford to support it, there's no money in doing so unless you can gather a large playerbase to pay for it. The vast majority of Sims players on various forums have expressed many times that they aren't interest in an online game. I know a few are, but that brings us back to the first problem: It's not enough.
Also, I believe many don't want EA to focus on online components after the SimCity fiasko, where the online components were a major part of what made that game not work properly.
I would love to see the original Sims online back on!
@LadyLisa1964 , are you talking about the multiplayer Sims Online or the original game "The Sims"?
If you are talking about the online version, I doubt EA/Maxis will try to go down that path again as both original game and trying to make Sims 4 an online game were both disasters.
As for the original game from 2000, EA/Maxis has no plans at this time to remaster/re-release either The Sims or Sims 2. There are hundreds of threads not only here, but at the Official Forums that ask this very same question.
- @roberta591 Will Wright is not longer on the board of directors

@sim31984 Last I was sure of Wright was on the board of directors for Linden Lab. But he may be working on a new project called Proxi by Gallium. Wright was into gaming while I was into operating systems and that was decades ago. I only hear about these people when I get infrequent emails and lately those emails are really infrequent. I'm trying to retire but I have several clients that don't want me to but in another two years I may be moving to find out if the grass IS greener on the other side of the mountain. I haven't written anything in over a decade and now my life isn't going 100MPH I may just start something. Been working on a few small server projects. I believe the Sims should have an online component but many users still like that doll house concept. Take care and thanks for the update about Wright.
