Hi! New here and looking for some input and encouragement. It feels like I have truly painted myself into a corner.... I started writing my Legacy in 1st person point of view since it felt like more pesonal and easy to relating to. But now, when my founders children are growing up and starting to show some personality I really don't know how to tell their stories (within the story so to speak) without completly changing perspective?! Any ideas? Or do I just have to bite the dust and make the change in PoV and move on?
Hi, Bloudwed! So many options! Dialogue between the first person narrator and the kids can be one way to help develop their characters.
If the first person narrator tends to be an observant, perceptive, and thoughtful person, then she can share her reflections about her children.
Or--if she's clueless, she can present her clueless perspective, but you can show through screenshots and interactions that she's missing the point entirely! @JordanNicoleJJ is doing this with her current heir, who doesn't have a clear perception of how awesome her little sister is.
Another technique would be to have journal or diary entries or letters or emails that the kids write--the first person narrator could find them.
And, many legacy writers shift the first person narrator.
I've got several stories (not legacies, but other stories) where I shift the first-person narrator. I just write the narrator's name in italics at the top, so readers know who's telling the chapter.
Have fun! It will be great to see what techniques you discover to handle this!
