Sims FreePlay - basement quest error

DIY Homes: Basement of Kings Quest. 

This quest required a sim to study the basement at the DIY House. When I click on the ‘X’ or try to get a sim to use the stairs in the diy home a speech bubble with footprints appears above the sim. 

As the diy house cannot be edited I’m not sure what I can do to enable a sim to get into the basement to complete this quest?

any suggestions?

    I updated my sims freeplay to the “car/garage” update and as soon as i did my sims refuse to go up or down the stairs. i tried contacting EA and it kept directing me here, is anyone else having this issue.

    I’m currently doing the DIY HOMES: BASEMENT OF KINGS event and I’m stuck at the Study the basement of DIY HOME stage. 

    My sim refuses to go downstairs. The footprint bubble keeps popping up but it doesn’t make sense because there’s nothing blocking the path. 

    I really want to finish this quest on time. Please help asap.

    Not only spiral staircase, but dining table chairs too. Sims won't sit & shows footprint above them. Have moved chairs and switched them out with different types. Have rebooted i-pad as well. I do not want to restore game to before the update because I would lose progress on too many tasks.

    I’m glad it’s not just me too, thought I was just being really stupid. Maybe it’s just a bug, fingers crossed it gets sorted soon
