Marketplace Download Data stored in hidden folder location

The Maker Pack downloads are unexpectedly stored in the following hidden directories:

Windows: User > [Username] > AppData > Local > TS4

Mac: Macintosh HD > Users > [Username] > Library > Application Support > TS4

This has several downsides as you can't move or redirect this folder, they are hidden system folders. The biggest issue with this is being stored solely on the internal drive, you can't put them on an external drive if running low on internal storage. and you also can't redirect it to a bigger internal drive. This can lead to issues when these drives are full.

The expectation is Maker Packs are installed in the same location as the game and DLC, as directed in EA App, so the user can make sure they have the installation files in the same location where there is enough space. By default the game installation location is for both base game and The Sims 4 pack folders:

Windows: C:\Program Files\EA Games
Mac: Macintosh HD > Applications > EA Games

There is an indication on the GUI that lets you know who much space you have left but that isn't that easy to find and you won't see it if you never go to My Collection > Maker Packs > Manage Storage

  • Thanks Crin. This is really disappointing as the repercussions for those who have limited disk space on their computers is huge. They won't buy Maker Packs because they have no space to store them or, and this is worse, they will purchase Maker Packs whilst they have space and then at some point in the future no longer be able to use those Packs, significantly impacting their game both CAS and object wise.

These Maker Packs should absolutely be stored in the same location as the base game and DLC location as defined in EA App.
