I tried out the Marketplace (Xbox). I bought a pack of shoes. The items are fine, and it was easy to do. But I was struck by the dearth of packs available. Just a few furniture sets and even less clothing packs. I get that it just opened up, but most of it looked pretty much like furniture and clothes I've seen before in the game, just recolored/textured or one little thing changed. Nothing really caught my eye or made me really want it. I was really expecting there to be more things available.
I don't like the "illustrative" pictures of the packs because they are deceptive. They show the items in an environment that would make the average person think everything they see will be included in the pack, but it's really just a few of the items set in a fully equipped room of things that you might not have. So I want to see exactly what I'm going to get upfront if I'm going to be spending money for it. It's obfuscation.
I also really dislike the moola system and will probably not buy anything else because of it. Why do I have to spend more money on moola than I need to buy the pack? Why can't I just buy a pack with real money, the exact amount of money like I do with official EA created content? It's ridiculous! It just looks like a blatant money grab by EA. I can just hear the bean counters: "Oh, they'll spend more than necessary because of our convoluted payment system, and if they don't spend the extra, we'll have made $xxxxx by the end of the year! They'll never notice! Tee hee!"
