yes correct, in order to send private direct messages you will need to have posted at least once on the forum. There are a couple spam protections in place that prevent direct messaging otherwise. By the way, it's also possible to disable receiving direct messages in the AHQ settings.

And I can confirm that, this is exactly what you need to do even though it sounds really strange.
So, in order to send direct message to anyone, you just need to submit one post to any forum in here if you haven't done so already. After that, you will see the "Send this user a direct message" under Contact Me section of any profile that you want to contact.
Let's see does it work as I haven't posted anything yet and I am not able to DM anyone.

Click on the name of any player, click on letter icon and change (if you need) destination's name.
