WCS2023 - Countdown Nr. 4 - Interview with Uncle_J00

Sooo - the WCS is right around the corner. So let's conclude the countdown with a nice treat at the end, an interview with Uncle:

leo7044:

Hello Uncle_J00,

today I would like to interview you and ask you a few questions. All answers are purely voluntary. Only say what you want to say, and remain silent if you don't want to say anything. You have completed several worlds and won many of them. In the community, you have the reputation of being one of the best players in the C&C:TA universe. Tell us something about yourself. Who are you, and what do you do when you're not playing this game?

Uncle_J00:

Hello Leo! Thank you very much for the opportunity for the interview!

I am Joachim, or more commonly known online as "Joe," and unlike those who have been interviewed already, I'm a bit younger. The age bureau counts me at a fresh 24, still a student, initially in the field of physics, but now in the field of management. I've been acquainted with the game for quite some time now. As a student, I had quite a bit of time, but now, in the realm of "little Joe," real life has called, and with my second degree, professional side job, friends, and real-life social activities, I am quite well occupied. 🙂

leo7044:

Thank you for sharing insights into your life. Please, feel free to tell us how you came across this game and how you became the player you are today in the game.

Uncle_J00:

When I started with C&C, I was 12. My mom always said I talk too much, so it wasn't a problem when I suddenly disappeared into my room for almost 10 years. There, I forged plans to seize world domination.

Joe, 24, Leisure Dictator (Text by DonSchoko)

If anyone wants to read the more detailed version:

It all started sometime in 2012 with the motto "everyone starts small"... and for those who can do the math, you now understand that I practically grew up with the game. :D At that time, I was in my Minecraft server phase and had met some people there, some of whom also played C&C:TA. From World 8 onwards, I initially navigated through various German servers, played in the 5th wing of large alliances, rejoiced at ranking 2000, and people were amazed when I told them there was an attack simulator script for the game. Yes, it wasn't integrated back then!

My first proper server was the Italian Mondo 4 in 2014, where I experienced my first endgame. Probably still my favorite server to date. The server was already New Economy, and collectors had actually gained a meaningful function. There, I also met xxKingChrisxx from nVidia, my first "mentor" in the game, who taught me the basics of base construction and economy.

Through several more servers with defeats and victories, especially in terms of attacking and simulating (Shoutout to wickedADAMMM, DeadPO0ls & Techzhen), I learned a lot and eventually joined Mara Salvatrucha under Ekses' leadership on Wrath 10, where I first asserted myself at the top.

Right after that was WCS 2017. I still remember how my younger self was full of enthusiasm when Ekses told me I would play in Mara's main. It turned into nervousness just before the server started, and I could see the names of all the familiar "top players" sitting in Teamspeak for the first time. My surprise and relief were immense when I realized I could actually keep up. :D After many months of war in the middle, we won the server, and my 17-year-old self beamed with the gold medal. :)

My personal peak was reached, and I started taking longer breaks between servers because the game became increasingly demanding. I took on more leadership positions, with a commander on WCS 2019 and the first time as the Supreme Commander on Tiberium 44. However, it was primarily the enormous time commitment that went into the game that was not sustainable or healthy in the long run. 2.5 years ago, after Tiberium 48, I said goodbye to the game and only occasionally check in. Above all, I occasionally drop by the Discords/Teamspeaks for a chat. Over the years, I've made many friends, some even outside the game. (Greetings to Nudlaug/Donschoko at this point)

leo7044:

In your gaming history, you must have experienced some exciting battles. What was the most thrilling one for you?

Uncle_J00:

The question is tough to answer, as each world and battle always had something unique about them that stuck in my memory.

I would answer the question with WCS 2017, as it was the first server for me where two evenly matched teams collided, and we had war for over three months in an extremely demanding and time-intensive manner. I remember when our Mara cluster in the middle clashed with Brüllhusten’s High Speed Tubbies. The Tubbies had several players who had heavily farmed their accounts throughout the entire server, resulting in strong mains and a lot of RT. Their strongest player then hopped into my range when our clusters moved, and I quickly realized that the point difference came solely from the power plants and collectors in the main, and in terms of offense and defense, he was one level below me. With three attacks, he was dead, and it was a very cool feeling! :D After that, the months-long lid war started; we were completely shot out of our sector once, which we then did to the Tubbies in return. It was quite frustrating to see how you are always target number one and can only watch when you die, thinking about what you can improve in your defense. On the other hand, jumping into the middle of the opponent's cluster once and shooting a cornfield was the redemption. I still miss the summer of 2017 because somehow I sat in front of my screen every day for two months, clicking two mice to pieces in hours of lidding and competing to see who attacks the bubbled lid accounts and gap fillers first. In the end, it was all worth it, even though during the endgame, we had to lid our own hubs together with Schaffa (@Mediv88). :D There are still so many cool stories to tell, but unfortunately, I have to keep it a bit shorter and save some time, so just a few honorable mentions at this point:

Tib 31: Mara Salvatrucha vs. Section 8: We had significant difficulties keeping up throughout the world and were about to give up. After a fusion with our "half-wing," new motivation emerged, and we arrived so strongly in the middle that DeadPO0ls and I alone cleaned up Section 8. :D

WCS 2019: Schaffa vs. The Coalition: Although the war here lasted as long as on WCS 2017, the allure was completely different. The difficulty here was that we essentially had a 1 vs. 5, and we had to protect our wings until they were strong enough. Still, I found the server more boring than WCS 2017. For example, my main never fell once.

Tib 44: Social Distancing vs. We don't have a name & TTD: Leading a server from the beginning as the Supreme Commander was once again a challenging and time-consuming (thanks, Corona) endeavor. Due to the lack of coordination among our enemies, we could emerge victorious quite easily. Brüllhusten recognized that and subsequently founded Project. ;-)

leo7044:

Now a question that I've actually heard more often on Discords lately: Will you be seen at WCS2023? Do you have anything planned? I'll remind you again that you don't have to answer or you can also come up with something for the rumor mill. After all, this interview is not intended to be to your disadvantage and/or that of your alliance.

Uncle_J00:

Thank you, Leo, for the reminder, but I think on the day of the WCS start, I can finally make it official! I will play in WCS2023! 😈 The medal as Supreme Commander in a WCS is the only major milestone still missing for me, so let's tackle this mission.

Joking aside! I don't want to hide anything here; I've told everyone so far that I most likely won't be playing, and that's how it will stay. To play the WCS in a way that would satisfy me, I simply lack the time and motivation. Who knows if I'll ever play another world. It's been 2.5 years since the last world, after all. (: Nevertheless, I will certainly drop in occasionally to see what's happening and may the best team win!

leo7044:

Thank you for your comments and back to the studio at my desk.

The next interview will be published in exactly one week at the start of the WCS. The interview partner has been chosen - stay tuned.

Greetings

Leo
