GDI MCV research done but no MCV or new base tab appears

I just researched the GDI MCV. My research points and credits were subtracted but the tab now remains greyed out and shows a new higher number of research points and credits needed. No gold check mark appears as when other items are researched. There is no MCV or new base tab showing under base items. Has anyone else had this problem. Is there any way to correct this or get my research points and credits back? Thanks in advance for any help.
