This is a well known (obviously not by you) problem with relocating at the start of a game. Depending on the size of the world, the system moves you back to an empty location as well as to the desired sector. The number of free empty slots increases as the world size increases. It's not a mistake on the developers side of things as this has been reported many times on small worlds and is the design of the small worlds. Simply do not sector jump until you've moved into the world or slots have been used in the desired sector.
