Can't invite friends, "Origin overlay disabled"

Hi all, I've gotten back into this great game recently and a buddy of mine picked it up as well. The frustrating thing is that I cannot invite him to my game by selecting the "Invite friends" option ...

Same here! I can't invite any friends, can't open the overlay, can't even use the in-game chat and I can't use the in-game store. Even the "invite Network" button does nothing.
