Different levels of brightness in windowed mode vs. fullscreen

Hi,

I'm having issues with the correct brightness level in Titanfall 2. The level of brightness is higher when the game is in windowed mode. This also affects screenshots with MSI Afterburner, even in fullscreen (when the image is darker). This only affects Titanfall 2, other games have always the same level of brightness regardless of the display mode. What might be causing this? In order to get a good image in fullscreen (everything properly lit, with detail and original saturation), I also had to make several changes. First I had to lower the brightness levels to 0, then I reduced the contrast with ReShade. The brightness within Titanfall 2 seems to be different than the usual gamma slider which keeps saturation intact. Something is different to the other games with Titanfall 2's video settings...

I'm using a Geforce GTX 970 and the most recent Nvidia driver.

Thanks.

It would be difficult to make a point with screenshots as they are not correctly recorded once I'm in fullscreen. :-/

  • I do not have this issue and my roommate does not have this issue,HOWEVER. I have experienced this in games in the past sadly however I dont remember the fix so at best I can only share what I know,

I left a screen shot that shows what you need to find. I believe it is something along the lines of  Window "Compression" and It might be here but ti also might be in the Nvidia settings. and to put it simply, when a game would get windowed, the brightness wouldnt get brighter, it was the rendering of the lighting that was getting brighter then when you would alt-enter it would get super dark, So I my brain says it might be something inside Nvidia's menu? I dont belive this to be a fault of the game more so a Nvidia or Windows setting,

Some games get help from Nvidia to help fiddle with their settings (To over-ride them) which is why some games dont have issues or dont act the same as others, However that usually requires Nvidia getting some exclusive graphics or settings that AMD users would not have access to. Thankfully the devs have opted out of that under-table marketing. So it means that you'll have to finaggle the settings. (Which is something I dont miss with Nvidia)

Since i have had AMD for the last 2 years my memory on Nvidia settings has gotten a little hazy, However I hope this helps put you in the right direction.

  • Thanks for your reply. Somebody mentioned a strange / lowered gamma level of Titanfall 2 compared to desktop / default settings. I don't know anything about the finer points of gamma level, really... I'm gonna keep my eyes open in terms of the things you described.

  • Update: Seems to have something to do with gamma level. One theory would be, that the game uses a color profile with a gamma level much lower than desktop. However, why then does the OSD of MSI Afterburner have wrong colors, both in windowed mode and in fullscreen mode? The colors (taken from a color picking tool) have other RGB values than they should have (and have in other games). This is a very confusing problem. See screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/Sn8OC
