Game unable to run in fullscreen, causing graphics to break completely

i bought and downloaded the game yesterday (moving over from ps4) and didnt have a single problem running the game during the two or so hours i played. but today, i launch the game and the screen remains black (i can hear the game just fine) and if i alt + tab in and out everything goes into a colorful trippy mess making the game unplayable.

after reinstalling both the origin launcher and the game itself, the problem remains, but i figured out it works alright in windowed mode but then the game is literally just in a separate window and instead of hiding the mouse cursor it's dragging along the screen as i look around in game which is really distracting. 

i've seen the older threads with 5+ solutions including running as administrator, reinstalling, manually deleting origin etc, and i've tried all of it but none of it has done the trick so far. i do have an older graphics card because i cant afford a proper gaming card just yet, but i doubt it matters cause the game ran fine last night and i've had zero problems in any other game.
