Persistent mid-game crash - "materialsystems dx11" issue?

I'm having the same issue as well.  I'm using a GTX 660ti.

I turned off HyperThreading, which seemed to improve performance, but still crashed in the same way.  Then I turned off all except one core (I'm using an i7 3770) and that seemed to prevent the crashing, but my performance was obviously way lower and still experience dramatic stuttering instead.

So, it's a good workaround, but kills performance to the point of unplayable IMO.
