I'm having the same problem (although mine pauses for a bit more than a split second, it usually gives me at least a few to think about what its just done to me), can't figure it out, though I doubt its the drivers as it was happening with me before I updated them.
It sounds like 3rd party interference. Test by booting to a clean boot before re-running the game.
