Xbox 360 constant crashing and freezes.

Had the game for only a few days but it is performing on the console so poorly. Usually i will get between 10 to 20 minutes play-time before the screen will freeze and there is no response from the from the console either; only way to gain  a response is to turn it off and back on but will still happen frequently afterwards. There is no corrolation to what is causing it, sometimes it will happen during a game, sometimes in a loading screen to a server, or on the main menu barely past the start screen. Any ideas? Or is this just what happens on xbox 360 for everyone.
