- Not necessarily required, certainly would not effect the gameplay.
The question should be "Will Disney support the game?" - Ea owns the rights still. Besides Ea ha done deals with Disney with Star Wars.

What Disney has bought tapped out or all of The Simpsons?
Can nobody provide context.
Disney bought Fox, which owns the rights to broadcast The Simpsons - doesn't mean that they have any of the rights to the game, and probably won't lead to any noticeable difference.- Saw a pictured captioned “now that Disney owns Fox and fox owns M*A*S*H, that make Klinger a Disney princess.

- Just wanted to stir up a discussion. I'm a Disney survivor (park in '85 , studio in '91). I was around when the Muppets were scooped up along with Capitol Media Group (ABC, ESPN, A&E). The main reason this deal was so important was to gain an established distribution channel in Europe (Skynet) which Fox owned a large cut. Disney's pulling out of Netflix and launching their own streaming service by the end of May.
As with Marvel, Fox will likely have the same autonomy that Marvel has retained. Because Fox puts out more adult fare, they will likely stay under the 20th Century Fox brand.
I'm very curious we might start seeing Simpsons characters, merchandise, attractions, etc. in the five parks around the world just as Marvel (Guardians of the Galaxy overlay of Twilight Zone Tower of Terror), Lucas Films (Star Wars Land), and the Avatar ride in Florida.
I kinda saw this coming a while back before it was announced. Disney first licensed the Muppets before buying it, as as they did with Star Wars (Lucas Films), and then Avatar (Fox).
EA owns the copyright to the game engine, not the the whole TSTO game itself. They have to license the "The Simpsons", but Disney may now up the price. I've tried licensing with both Fox and Disney separately (you can check out my free PNP Disney card game here), and you have to have a ton of up-front money.
Just a month ago, Disney handed Disney Emoji Blitz to Jam City. It was originally produced in-house. I'm just curious to see if Disney bring TSTO in-house. I'm sure there are a ton of new licensing contracts being sent out across the globe to Fox property lincensees right now. - Look closely at this new Disney logo graphic......
