An easy way to prevent missing anyone is to give them new tasks immediately after you collect from their previous tasks.
This way you only need to look for the thumbs up icon to find anybody you have missed.
This theory works but some character tasks are only unlocked when another finishes,so you might be one cycle behind in that term.
