I play every day, but most of my characters just wonder, I only task them if a quest requires it or to get more Krustyland tickets. Once you reach a certain point in the game you don't really need the cash they produce from tasks, so its not worth the effort to tediously keep them busy 24 hours a day. I spend my time tweaking my town layout and tapping neighbors.
