We know so much about American culture because of all the movies. Without them I would have no idea what independence day and thanksgiving are!! Well, independence day is pretty self explanatory, but you get my point!
Right, it's the day Will Smith beat back the alien invasion. We commemorate it on July 4th.
I can't think of a thanksgiving movie myself? But your right the movie industry is big in the Good Old an we do make a lot of historical movies! Australia seems like a sweet place! Wish we were taugh more about it!
Captain Ron ran. Boat in to a huge reef down there ran the whole coast!- Thank you very much, had no idea this clown was racist, although it would explain an awful lot.
- Well I can't think of any movies that are just about thanksgiving, but there are plenty of movies and tv shows where there's a scene or episode on these American holidays. All I'm saying is that it's a lot easier for us in Aus (or any other country for that matter) to understand US culture more than they understand ours. Unfortunate, yes, but it won't change.

It's a shame- petergeenenNew SpectatorHere in Belgium, we remember those that gave their lives during WWI, on a daily basis. In Ieper, every evening at exactly 8 o'clock, buglers play the Last Post as a tribute to the memory of the soldiers who fought and died here so many years ago. Including 6208 Australian soldiers. We will never forget.

This is sadly true, not to sound like a ignorant american but our media is in to much control over stuff! I have seen that, I respect other countries but we don't get to much info on others so its hard to know a lot! I try to read as much as I can but WW1 was not as big of a focus in my schooling as was WW 2, I rook a clas in High school just on that an then one in college as well! I though Australia used the pound but Iam greatful for the post this it was good reading about it on wiki!- My boyfriend is Australian and we've been together for a while, plus we're both in the entertainment industry so we see a lot of film and television (lots of Australian included) and I have yet to watch a show or film that covered anything related to Anzac Day, meanwhile, he's exposed in so many different ways to all the American holidays, even the trivial ones. There just isn't anywhere near even trade with the international market that imports so many of our properties and even when the US does buy foreign series they're remade so they can exploited for bigger profit (advertizing dollars.) Also, and very unfortunately, the decision makers in Hollywood think that they need to bow down to the lowest common denominator so in their minds the US consuming public is essentially represented by the wankers making the xenophobic comments in this thread but, of course, that couldn't be further from the truth. I wish they had a little bit more faith and a lot bigger balls because in the end this attitude is reflected in the product that we put out which is seen all over the world and further contributes to the negative American stereotypes that these same idiots then complain about other countries having regarding Americans.
Also, I don't understand the selfish and immature attitude that some individuals have where citizens of a particular country aren't allowed to feel pride in their own country and shout out "_______ is #1!" as though that somehow impedes us from saying the same about the US. Believe it or not most people think their country is the * s**t and that's really OK since they have to live there and we live here so what difference does it make? Does it always have to be a d**k size contest with everyone? /end rant
And another thing, Australia has pretty much had the US's back in most of the wars of the 20th century on so it's so not cool to be dismissive of what is their equivalent of the our Memorial national holiday. So disrespectful! Seriously, pick up a history book.
