I don't think the event went on for too long. I'd rather they keep the prize requirements where they are too, as it gives people time to play casually and still get some nice rewards.
Halving the prize requirements as well as the time would've made it easier to miss and thus less likely to draw in casual players over a long period of time.
Now a lot of new players are in the habit of playing Tapped Out at least 2 times a day or so, so they're hooked enough for whatever the next updates will bring.
The goal of any Freemium game is to convince its players they have to play EVERY DAY if not multiple times a day for fear of missing something big or not having the resources for when the next big something comes.
