@someonewashere - returning items have long been part of the game. Sometimes they're cheaper, sometimes they cost more and sometimes they were free event prizes but return as premium items. Some things haven't yet come back at all. That's just the way it is.
Like many I wasn't playing at the start and for a long time couldn't afford the limited time premium offerings so I welcome the chance to get these things again.
I've paid donuts for things others got for free, and had things free others paid for, like when Kang and Kodos turned up for the Rigellian Christmas a while back.
I was also finally able to justify, and spare the sprinkles, to get the permanent premium items from the store not long back. The day after I pay 250 Ds for Barney and have emptied the category EA introduced the Yearbook box.
Yes, I let out a cry of dismay, but soon followed with an oh well and I took it on the chin. That also got me well over 400 items at a fantastic discount when I thought about it.
I also guess you haven't read the thread - 30,000 baby !! - where my game was mentioned, so I'll repost a pic here.
Does it matter to me if the buildings pay donuts or cash or springfield heights lattes, ermmm, nope . . .
I read, and honestly to each their own.
The idea of the buildings generating a non donut currency comes from a similar occasion when SH had those tennis courts that boosted your multiplier, they switched them to non Multiplier courts and changed the aesthetic a little.
You can have two of the same items, one with a slight lesser value or less features.
We go back to the Anniversary editions in movies nowadays, I could buy the blur-ray immediately, wait till the price drops, or wait until they bundle it with a limited edition keyring.
All technically the same item, some different pricing, others different features.
The idea behind this is simple, I see no reason.
No reason to continue that dreaded cycle, no one forced me to spend but my mind and the illusion that such an item would fade away into obscurity. When CostMo was released I was actually happy, I thought EA would just release a new Donut Generating building each year, every player had the OPPORTUNITY, OPPORTUNITY of obtaining one, those who were there during the first one had access to the first one, and later access to the second. Perhaps someone who barely started playing wouldn't have access to the old ones.....but eventually they'll be able to get a new one.
Almost like a yearbook.
A new one gets released each year, similar in structure but different in content, you're not forced to buy each one, but availability is dependent on if you were there or not.
I can't go to a school and demand them sell me a Yearbook from 1979.
Yet it's a game, and I understand this ideal of equality within the game.
Nevertheless.
I say this knowing fully well that your average player spends far less than your average whale.
Yet they play the same game, yes?
Reap different benefits, sure, but in consequence everything in theory is the same.
Freemium games depend on the contributions of the whale.
This isn't a subscription game, otherwise people would be arguing over some other point.
This isn't a game where every player spends at least a dollar a month.
Nope, you have the choice to pay and play or just Play.
They, EA, make most of their money from the whales.
Maybe some merchandising, no ad Revenue as no ads (which I'm grateful for) and this isn't Public Broadcasting so it's not funded by some generous grant, no, it's funded by players just like you!
I decided not to buy the character donut bundles anymore, however the idea of purchasing a NEW Donut Generating building as long as it looked good, was not out of the question.
They didn't do that, and instead re-released the old ones. No changes, so it does diminish the method in which I obtained the item.... As such I see no reason to pay.
A lot of people know the benefits of not paying to play, once the remaining few that do pay start dwindling off, well that's when things start to change more radically.
It's a popular IP, so I'm sure that someone will always be paying, but the gaps in revenue will become more apparent over time.
I'm Conclusion, as a Paying Player, I no longer feel a need to spend, it's been a long way coming and I should have seen the warning signs, weird place to draw the line some might say, but so it is and so it shall be.
The pleasant peacocks plumage perfumed perfusely, precociously, powerfully, they pictured pleasant patterns in the wind, that proud Pheasant, the plumed patriot, the pattered down pioneer.
