Why do people call it soccer, not only do I think it's a stupid name, but other than Soccer Aid, (Last week), the only time I heard it, it was on a magazine called that, but that was over 35 years ago.

Incidentally, I hate football, don't watch it, don't play it, don't even watch England play, if they were any good they'd have won something by now.

We call it soccer because that is the name of the game. Football is a totally separate game.

Sorry that is incorrect. It's only called soccer in the US or Canada. Everywhere else it's football. Only in the US is the oval-ball game called "football".

Seeing as how I am in Canada, for me it is correct. That was the point of my reply. To many people it is called soccer, to generally say that it is not is incorrect.

To the majority of the planet what is known as soccer is called football. That's the point of my reply. To be fair I can't stand either.
