I was kidding around, but you're right. My grandparents passed away in a car accident when I was 2, never really had the luxury of knowing them.
All four of them??
No, mothers side. Fathers side are still around, only just. They live in England but don't really talk with the rest of the family. Status: it's complicated.
Well, I guess if you never really developed a relationship with them, then it's different. I spent lots of time with my maternal grandfather when I was little, and I remember being bored out of my mind for much of it. I was too young to appreciate how brilliant he was-- it wasn't until after he'd gone that I learned about the things he'd invented and discovered. So yeah, I'd give just about anything to spend a day with him now
Well said. My maternal grandfather passed when I was 6, but I still have fond memories of watching Yankees games with him. When I was in my late teens/early 20's, I was out partying with my friends every night and didn't spend all that much time with my family, but I realized when I was 24 or so, life is too short, and once they're gone, you can never have that time back. My girlfriend and I bought our house right next door to my Grandmother, so I see her multiple times a day, and I feel really lucky to be almost 30, and still have 3 of my 4 grandparents.
In the words of the late, great, Tony Soprano "I don't care how close you think you are, in the end, your friends are going to let you down. Family - they're the only ones you can depend on"
