FYI: cannot group store characters
I am about to do a screen replacement on my borrowed iPad, so I’ll be stuck using my old android tab, possibly for a few days. I know the game runs better on it with fewer characters roaming around...

Never tried it but what happens when you free 'em and then group select ??
The thinking - they're not tied to those buildings and storing a building always frees characters that are just on task there. If you can group select them then and store the characters that might help.
Using the groups thingies on the right so it only selects characters might give it a nudge too.
