Either directly swap one crafting item for another (like maybe 3 corn for 2 Fertilizers or 1 DNA) or use it to make swap deals with your neighbors (tap on it, select a neighbor and request what they have, then they counter offer....). That would have been neat.
If you had a choice of buildings to craft, and they each would offer something that would help you along through the event, I think this would be less boring than wasting hard-earned currency leveling up one or two buildings.
