Its not just the task, picking this skin for Homer is crashing my game.........

Crashed for me, too. Buying the Krusty Burger Station, which I would have bought anyway, helped, too. (Even though that doesn't complete the "unlock a station" task.)
Stations apparently spawn possums which, when tapped, also earn blueprints.
