I, for one, hope that it's not like Springfield Heights. By its very nature the Badlands needs to be far, far away. Like Krustyland far away. It would look really stupid to be in the Heights and see desert just on the other side of the mountain.
Another reason is because of the decoration limit. If it's in the main Springfield it counts against the limit, but if it's like Krustyland it won't.
Just my two cents. Honestly I'll be happy either way, but if I had a choice I'd go with Krustyland-style.
Agreed, i understand why people want land expansions: more space for their stuff or for others more space in-between their stuff, but the thing is without an increased decoration limit more land is pointless, and if the decoration limit is increased you'll have the issue of the game being very laggy.
The logical solution would be a separate area like Krustyland, however i would suggest that this separate area and springfield share various (if not all) items, that way items can be placed in both areas, allowing our inventories to be less clogged, and to make it feel like we have some control.
Obviously the simpson house, flanders and certain buildings should remain in SF but i digress. someonewashere wrote:

- in the event questline they also took a shot at the time burns blocked the sun

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f5/zennglenn/AKKf3Kw_zpsmqe5ly8x.png - Really looking forward this update ! It will be a nice spot to move all our desert-related decorations and buildings !!!!
If I had only one whish it would be that we could reach the area through a tunnel that would be connecting the area to Springfield Heights and would be visible through a swap on screen (by clicking on the tunnel entrance, we would be auto-transport to the desert area just like when we miss some resource for crafting and the screen auto-takes us to the factory / shop). Then the traveling could take a second or two above moutains to show the distance between SH and the desert area.
In real-life Springfield, this is exactly where the desert area is and so far, the developers have been in line with real-life Springfield by placing SH at the left end of our town and sea at the bottom end of our town.
Who knows ? Maybe one day we will event get to build Shelbyville at the north-end ! - Any idea when?

Well it's gonna be AT LEAST a month...- bluntcardNew Traveler
NO NEW AREA!
Decorations and new dirt/road/sand tiles, and we choose where to make our desert area.
I may want to use these decos in other areas besides a desert area.
I hope there are no limits as to where we can use desert themed items. - I speculate that all of this purely speculative content will (would?) be awesome!
There, now it's all speculation and we can all get back to our lives (or, rather, playing tapped out).
