I've been on several games in which you can send short messages. I've never seen anyone be abusive, not once. And if it should happen, you can always delete them. I'm in favor of being able to send messages. Especially some sort of messaging that will allow neighbors to know that:
On vacation
Nice town
Where have you been/missing you, or something to that effect
Also maybe a message stating "Clear your town already!" :lol:
