While I understand your distinction, I will just say it is a lot neater in theory than in practice. We are not talking about two distinct categories of satire with different essential characteristics. In reality what one person categorizes as Horatian another may categorize as Juvenalian, and that distinction has nothing to do with subtlety.
The bottom line is, if (hypothetically) I think that NRA activists are like insecure little children I might think it is lighthearted to portray them as naive little doom and gloomers checking under the bed for monsters to shoot at... it is likely that most people who identify with the group would fail to recognize the frivolity.
You may generally appreciate the writing on the show better, I have no way to know what is going on in your head. But go back and look at your thread... the people who have commandeered it on your side... they are a bunch of whiny agenda pushers... insecure that the lack of reason in their views will be exposed.
Also, the nature of the satire SHOULD depend on the nature of the subject, no? One would expect a little more bite to satire that commented on potentially harmful political ideology than say differences in race.
