Is the Rumor true?
It is not a rumor - the older devices are no longer supported - not the iPad . However, your issue is no different from the others on this forum -- check out the other posts about the servers not being available - it is a "well-known" problem
Here's what EA said about the devices - Please note: If you have a 1st and 2nd generation iPhone and iPod touch, you may not be able to play the Simpsons. We are constantly improving our games for the amazing new products that run them, and look forward to sharing our amazing new content with you once you have upgraded your device. If you've created an Origin account, your Springfield will be waiting for you when you get a new device.
