THOH 2020 saw a rise in the item limit, from 13,000 to 14,000.
The previous increase, from 12,300 to 13,000, was over a year and a half ago.
I wouldn't expect a further increase any time soon.
If you've gone past the many warnings and hit the hard limit you'll need to consider storing some items in order to use others - see the earlier post from Muhsterino in this thread for details on things that have a bigger impact on your item count, like roads don't count but put them on water and they do
