I had no problems getting the take down update on my 5th gen Kindle. I did have a problem once on my 1st gen and had to use the the following. Sorry not updated for gen 4 or 5.

Clearing your Kindle cache is not only good, regular maintenance for your Kindle but can also fix many common issues with mobile games when they won't load or close mysteriously mid-game. This may happen if the files in your cache get corrupted or just stop working.
For Kindle Fire 1st Generation
From the Home screen, tap the Quick Settings icon.
Tap "More," then tap "Applications."
Choose "All Applications" from the pull-down menu and tap "Appstore."
Tap "Force stop," then tap "Clear Data."
For Kindle Fire 2nd Generation
From the home screen, open the menu.
Tap "More."
Tap "Applications," then tap "Installed Applications."
Tap "Appstore," and then press "Clear Data."
For Kindle Fire 3rd Generation
From the home screen, open the menu.
Tap "Settings."
Tap "Applications," then tap "Manage All Applications."
Tap "Appstore," and then press "Clear Data."
