But please don't try to make charging $10 for a character about fairness in the premium content, or about how EA needs more money. EA has made nine digits off this game, they aren't hurting for Tapped Out money.

The reason that EA makes money off of the game is that they include premium content in their updates, so people buy that stuff, which is where the money comes from. In the case of this update, they actually released much less premium content than any other event they've ever done, and focused almost entirely on non-premium content. So, of course, people will complain about the not free stuff anyway. Oh, right, I forgot -- somewhere in all of those paragraphs of complaints, you specified that you weren't complaining.

*sigh* Whatever you say. Pointing out that others (I guess I need to say that I am not talking about myself) have spent a lot of donuts on this update is not a complaint, it's a fact. The assertion that it is "fair" to the company that they charge for the Grumple falls down under the weight of all the donuts already spent, and that was the point I was trying to make.
I don't care that I won't get the Grumple, any more than I care that I won't get the Rich Texan or Lugash. But go ahead and say I'm complaining if that somehow makes life easier for you.

Just to play 'devils advocate', how about if he was free ONLY to people who have spent over $xx on donuts this year? After all, they are the ones who are financing it for the free players? Shouldn't there be some sort of 'loyalty scheme' whereby people who spend, money on it, get items that are specific to the 'scheme'?

Just throwing the idea out there?...

Wasn't there a thread about this the other day. No loyalty programs dude! What you get from the doughnuts is your loyalty present. Seriously this idea is starting to get annoying. People who don't spend money on the game want everything for free. And people who spend money want special treatment. It's like watching a bunch of babies arguing over nonsense.
Personally I feel their premium system is fine for the most part, except for a few things. I won't even get into that. I don't want to throw this thread off with a huge pointless argument.

EA has been really generous this holiday. If you look at the premium items, the only big tag items this holiday is Santa's Village (200 donuts), which was just a re-release from last Christmas. Both Costington's and Claus Co are free. EA didn't have to do that. I think its fair that EA has some premium content this Christmas.

Admittedly, I don't understand the thought process behind releasing Grumple Christmas Eve but that doesn't matter.

The Grinch did his thing on Christmas eve. So having their Grinch rip off come on Christmas Eve makes sense to me.

Precisely good sir. Not to mention it makes the character rarer and therefore more special for those that make the purchase.

Agreed, but OYG 120 donuts is a lot. People were outraged that Jimbo cost that much, does the Grumple even have as many tasks as he does?
I don't mind the idea of paying donuts for this character, but I'm concerned about how the trend of ridiculously high donut prices for stand-alone characters seems to be continuing.

I totally agree with you on this.

How can you guys discuss so emotionally about something that is unknown to all of us?

I might understand a discussion if the Grumple should be free or not, but discussing even the amount of donut pushes the limit simply because its all speculation.

No one knows for sure if and for how much the Grumple will be available for purchase. We will find out in time.
spanser posted on thebfiles its 120 atm (still total speculation)

i know he posted it but as you mention correctly it is just speculation. We have just seen adjustments in community prizes. The forum went bananas for days speculating how much time it will take to achieve things.

Who's to say it wasn't changed BECAUSE of the forum complaining about it? It'd be interesting.

Somthing that I thought of too and I think thats possible.

However I tend to believe they noticed it themselves as well that something didnt go quite as planned and changed their approach. After all EA is not just some small software hut but has massive experience in game development and is a multi million dollar enterprise where decisions are made on the board table and not based on internet posts (I hope I am not getting banned from the forum for saying that as a reply to the forum moderator :( ).

The case with the community prices was a little different: the event was ongoing already and it was predictable that in this pace it would most likely fail. EA had to react in order to keep everyone happy (premium payers as well as free players).

The Grumple has not yet started so its not clear if EA would fail their income expectation in case it costs donuts and isnt free (every character must have an expected income which defines the donuts it goes up for sale).

In reverse logic: the more people request to have him (even for free), the higher the market demand is thus the price can be higher.

After reading that EA has reached the nine digits, they must have a spcial task/sales/marketing team dedicated to this game. So what would be their motivation to give the Grumple out for free if people are willing to pay?

No, I'm sure you're right, their stats would have told them all they would have needed to know that something was off with the prize targets. :)

I think that the all free donuts we got for Halloween, they're trying to tempt us too burn them on the wheel of doom.
thats the thing. We got MANY free donuts on halloween and ppl still want more free stuff that they have to pay for? Really?
  • Personally I don't object to paying for the Grumple. There's been very little premium content in this update, so it's all good.

The only thing I do hope is that a donut sale happens before the Grumple disappears from sale, as I don't have enough for him right now and I'm saving my iTunes cards for a sale. I'd hate to miss out on bonus donuts to make sure I don't miss out on the Grumple. But, we'll see. If it happens, oh well.

i think grumple shouldnt disappear till 7th. and the sale lasts 24-25th. (Speculations from files)
