I had the same problem and ended up placing one in front of the other. A 360 degree turnability would have helped.

So I see I'm not the only one struggling! And also have that issue with rail tracks creating big freezes when attached to stations, so I removed most of them...
I also think I'm gonna remove the 2nd stairs, and it goes something like this:
And when I kept the 2 stairs, I put one in front and one in back of the station, which yes, it might be dangerous for people to get in! or might have to cross the tracks!
