Missing handshakes

I think someone mentioned in another thread that this is somehow connected to the "Cannot Connect to Server" screen that pops up every time the game launches. I'm guessing that if you're logged in to Origin when you tap "Retry," the server resets/clears your neighbor interactions.
The thing is, now I no longer get push notifications for neighbor visits (maybe because I'm always logged out).
This what I've been doing. Just log right out of your town when you are not playing. It is a pain to sign in each time but getting all handshakes now.
