They come from friends only afaik your game sounds like it might not be syncing with the servers. But from time to time i hit with graffiti from frink which usally means my game is not synced.

It just means that they are expecting the thread to be locked - usually because it's a redundant thread or because the conversation has turned ugly. Most don't care too much about message count, just sort of a game they play.
