Do your houses have to be "ready" in order for them to be attacked? Im still trying to collect money for new land (currently at $9M) so I will usually clear up my houses if I see them ready.. Is this preventing me from being attacked??

I don't see this. Is this later with the quests? I get it for the three castles, have not see with the houses.

I also don't have house farms, I chose in my building of my SF to make it look like a town. I originally only had one brown house because of it not being profitable, and not going to check the game every 5 minutes. I built cul-de-sacs with all the others {hope a new color house comes out with the next update}. Though I have not counted them, they generated enough after getting Sit-n-Rotate to build more cul-de-sacs as I accumulated all the land possible, and buying the new land strips {not water}.

Once I learned that neighbors needed to have things to tap, I added 16 more brown houses & the cool brown house. I don't tap them or Simpson's, Flanders', Van Houten's, 2 Krusty Burgers, 3 Kwik-E-Marts {only tapping one to get the scratchers} until handshakes appear just to make sure there are things left when I leave the game.

You can only upgrade the castles by clicking on them. :-)
