My gut feeling is that unless the game is redesigned and recoded the game will continue to be buggy.
Why? Because I've read the history of this game, and over 35 years of experience as a SE tells me it fits the pattern of "get it coded in a hurry, released before it was ready, underestimated the number of users, feature creep".
Perhaps EA could work on version II of the game, with some kind of upgrade path.
