Iterated prisoner's dilemma. Best result for you is if you're naughty, but your neighbor is nice. Next best for you is if both are nice. Worse if both are naughty. Worst if you're nice, but your neighbor is naughty.

Since it's iterated, people can retaliate in subsequent rounds. One strategy is to start out nice. Punish the naughty. If the naughty starts being nice, return to being nice.

Why retaliate? With only 5 presents (per day?) and tons of neighbors, you can skip the naughty people and just reward the nice people :D
