Please no more film studios. Ay dios mio.
Apparently Fox has released a terrible incomplete remastering of Buffy to Netflix, which has some fans up in arms, but the idea of seeing new goofy things actually makes a rewatch more appealing to me, like there's reports of vampire battles at the cemetary taking place in the bright daylight they were originally filmed in before the screen was darkened to make it "night." Stagehands appearing in suddenly wider wide shots, etc. Good times, from the sound of it.
Yeah, the Buffy thing is incredible, they released version without the proper filters (for lack of a simpler term) so might scenes look like they were shot in broad daylight.
When did they do this? I've been rewatching and havn't noticed yet.
I believe they are referring to the movie rather than the show.
No, theyre referring to the series. This according to Wikipedia:
In August 2014, Pivot announced that, for the first time, episodes of Buffy would be broadcast in high-definition which was remastered by 20th Century Fox. The transfer was poorly received by some fans, owing to a number of technical and format changes that were viewed as detrimental to the show's presentation; various scenes were heavily cropped to fit the 16:9 format, and shots were altered to have a brighter look, often with color levels altered. Other problems included missing filters, editing errors, and poorly re-rendered CGI. Series creator Joss Whedon and other members of the original team also expressed their displeasure.
As noted in the quote, the remastered episodes first appeared on Pivot, but I believe they have now also aired elsewhere. Not sure about that, however. I havent seen them myself. This recent push to remaster older television series reminds me a bit of the brief craze in the 80s in which studios were colorizing old black-and-white classics.
