they are not stupid enough to kill homer off that would be the kiss of death to the show

my money is on sideshow mel or sideshow bob, krustys dad just wouldn't have any impact since he's been in 10 or less episodes and he is not a iconic or great character.. it would be a let down with all the hype they are giving it.
