Not everyone playing watches the show. There have been many who posted over the years that they play for the town building, not for interest in the show.
On a similar note, true, real, Simpsons fans haven't watched more than a handful of episodes past season 10. This is indisputable.
That sounds like a joke to me. The Simpsons have had great episodes within their next 20 seasons. Season 30 has been great also. I think those people only lost their sense of humor and jumped on a band wagon.
