The Developers are probably overworked with too many projects...
The fact that most of us spend money on Donuts and get this much down time is a bit messed up, but I don't think the premise that they are an evil empire laughing at our anguish while lighting their cigars with $100 bills is even close to the truth... I think its more likely ineptness...
