Not sure the perceived history of the US one. From what I gather it's a celebration of the pilgrims????
It's essentially a harvest feast here, too, but with some added lore about the pilgrims and Native Americans sharing a harvest feast back in the days before they started killing each other.
It takes place on the fourth Thursday in November.
