There was also that reference to freemium games in that futurama cross-over.

Given the amount of revenue from this game, I can understand why TSTO gets so many nods from the show. The only real reason the show lasts this long is it's world-wide merchandizing profitability... and the lifespan of the voice actors of course. But even Bart Simpson T-shirts still sell and make business in places trying to grasp American Culture. Even though the show has run out of ideas, it sells so much product, it can't really die by choice.
