I think rabbi and stuart make very valid points, I know I have definitely contributed to the lowering of the overall IQ here with some of my posts, but definitely not all of them.
As someone that has been coming here a long time this is basically that lull before the update that is becoming the norm with people maxed out and nothing else to talk about. I was serious when I said what topic does the OP want to talk of the more positive or negative....basically 99% of them have been discussed here to the point of boredom. Who do you want to see next, or any other variation of the what if topic. The new idea thread of street naming was very well received, not derailed because, well it was a new insight for people to discuss.
When the game first came out and pretty much through the Thanksgiving update people were still achieving new levels, there was still a lot to talk about and learn from. Not so much the case anymore, especially with the regulars that do come here. I will also say in defense that most of the time when I see a new, valid thread with a real question I think it is generally answered kindly and with respect, not always, but usually. I know I answered two last night. So this still is a source for information, but not as many people are asking those things at this moment.
So what I am seeing here is that there is not much to discuss about the game, there are no updates there is nothing too new to discuss, so basically it is a group of people entertaining themselves, getting to know one another and yes, just being silly. But, as you can witness from this post, when serious questions are posed I think serious answers and respect is given, not always of course ,but that is life with the internet.
If there are topics that you wish to discuss that are game related please propose them. But please, not a rehash of topics that have been discussed or theorized countless times over, read those posts first, then if there is something new or not covered bring it back.
Not trying to be rude, I hope this comes off as fair, as I said, I do see where you are coming from. When the next update happens the first page will be swarmed with in game topics again.
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w192/kenny90_bucket/gif-picard-clapping.gif#clapping%20gif%20317x238- @mdfriend you made valid points in your post I agree with you on most of what you said.
i just think and its imho that we should keep it to Simpsons related material though then this forum would probably die
Though EA updates every month the game and forum gets stale. So i understand the need to have OT forums
to keep things interesting. I just think its gone over board that's all. I guess I'm continuing the fall with this topic. Wild ACE24 wrote:

Thank you, I like it when people agree with my wisdom. I do of course joke, nothing wise here.
I agree, more Simpsons related would be nice, but I also agree that this forum would become a wasteland, there would be very little to post, or what is posted would be so incredibly boring and redundant it would be just new people posting every 10 days.
This said, yes, it has gone way overboard compared to the past, I will not argue that very valid point. Sometimes it is annoying, but frankly as with all things internet related I just choose not to pay attention to every topic, or follow every thread. I also think this is in part because there are more players, more maxed out players so more discussion.
I do not think you are falling with this topic. It obviously hit a chord and has people addressing some issues.
EDIT - and I do apologize for my first, rather snarkier response that in fairness would not elicit further conversation from someone, though the original post seemed less about a dialogue and more a finger pointing, all the same, sorry for my original response.waltercartman wrote:
The regs here are sadly most to blame. Your neo and h1 feel the need to post in every topic with whatever just popped in there head.
I try and keep out of these threads as much as I can but when the whole front page is ot post what can I do?
Sadly this board is over and it will never be about the game or even the simpsons. Hell I've been yelled at for talking about the show on this board.
This is a simpsons board yet less then half the people here even like the show.
The inmates run this board and its not going to change no mod no self control.
Now I wait for some worthless pic to be posted and mean nothing.
I dont post what ever pops into my head thanks!!
If a topic has been derailed then yes i jump on the band wagon to join in the fun you know to "have a laugh" with you ever is on at the time, thats how you get to know people!!
If there is a serious TSTO topic posted i always answer to the best i can to help people!!....kinda the whole point we all here! Just so you know I love the simpsons always have always will!! :mrgreen:mdfriend wrote:
I understand this, and it makes sense, but at the same time, one OT thread for hockey and songs and everything else is not realistic. I do not want to wade through 200 pages to find out who likes what hockey team. The nice thing about this forum, and really most forums that are about a single topic and not a help thread is that a certainty community forms and a closeness develops. Part of the human experience, we just cannot help ourselves. The downside is that cliques form and some people feel intimidated to post or ask things because they feel they might be ridiculed or derailed or any other number of things, that legitimately could or may not happen.
I agree completely. I post on a parenting forum and we talk about our kids 20% of the time, mostly it's about random things, but we have all been posting together for over 3 years now. There is only so much of one topic you can discuss before it gets old.
I also agree that new subjects about the game or Simpsons related topics are more than welcome, but usually it is the same stuff over and over. I also think that if we only discussed the game then this board would die a slow and painful death. It is the randomness that keeps this board going. When new content is added, there will be more game related posts.mdfriend wrote:

One thing I would say though is that maybe all this socializing could be kept to one thread. That one that's something like "Nettangel showed her pic now you show yours" seems like a good one, I really don't think we need an individual thread for our favorite songs/movies/hockey teams/etc. That allows people to communicate with each other and not take up the whole forum, and so everyone's happy (excluding trolls).

In the end what we have here is a group of regulars that enjoy spending inordinate amounts of time on a forum board talking to one another when there is not much else going on in the game.
I would ask you, what are some in game things you want to discuss? I do not mean that in any negative way, but if you feel there are things not being covered that you want to talk about, please bring them up.spiffshine wrote:
I appreciate the more thoughtful posts here - zuzupj and mdfriend, you have summed it for for me quite well (as you so often do) so +1 for those. I also see your points, rabbikrustofski and stuartcurran and can even agree somewhat.
I agree that on topic threads should not be derailed, otherwise all our telling people to search is for naught.
However, I don't agree that one should hold back on starting worthwhile threads for fear of derailment. I'd love for you to share som of these ideas, rabbikrustofski. I think you will find that, even with the socializing regulars, we live talking about the game. It's what brought us here in the first place!
The forum is General Discussion, after all...
Odd, I do not see zuzu's post
Good rebuttal and I understand your points. It would be pretty annoying scrolling through a bunch of pages to find something specific you want to know. Although you could argue that anyone who wants to find some info about the game right now would have that very problem and, while the search forum is quite helpful, its been demonstrated by numerous posters who come in here and make repetitive threads that they are unaware of its existence or just refuse to use it. While this is the general discussion forum, I think everyone can agree that the other three sections are essentially deadwood. The FAQ may be the next best thing but it would seem that this is the go-to forum regardless of which section it belongs to.
In response to your question, I initially came here just to read others opinions and posts various pictures of my Springfield but if I do have any ideas I'll post them. If no one responds or it gets derailed in seconds then so be it. I made a thread before about character costumes which I think got about 2 pages of discussion and that was without derailment!
I too love the friendly atmosphere you can get from a forum and have been involved in a number of community-esque forums before. The reason I don't actually participate in this one is that I find it to be a bit clique-y, which happens, and its fair enough. While most of the regulars seem to be lovely people they tend to stay among themselves which makes it difficult for others to be recognised without posting hundreds of times (or 2000 times and then making a thread about it). It would seem that I'm in a minority anyway, as it seems a lot of people are siding with your school of though mdfriend, and I don't blame them, you put your arguments forward well and I'm glad we could have a civilized debate instead of it descending into usual internet madness. Anyway, I shall return to the shadows, if I can think of anything game-related worthy of discussion I'll post it :)waltercartman wrote:
The only reason you and h1 got singled out was you post alot.
I don't doubt you and h1 have a lot to bring to this board. However when a newbie joins and see are top posters making a muck of everything then they think that is just how it goes here.
No matter if you like it or not these new posters see what you post and follow suit.
No mod means ill have to deal with dating thread. We all know that it is only going to go bad but whatever.
H1 and I do bring alot to the forum when we can :) but we also like to have a laugh at each others expense. (speaking on behalf of myself there altho i think H1 will agree with me)
I do see your point about if we are posting silly comments (having a laugh etc) then new people will see this but on the other hand if they read the whole of the thread from start to finish then they would see why and understand why it ended up the way it sometimes does :)waltercartman wrote:
Anyone playing that is not a fan of the show won't last long on this game.
I don't agree with this at all.- Sorry, late to the game here. A lot has been said I only wish to add a few points.
A - This is THE SIMPSON'S. Immaturity reigns!
B. - This is about a game of PRETEND. We are designing cartoon towns with cartoon buildings and cartoon houses for cartoon characters. Lighten up. Please tell me what a serious topic can be?
C. - Reading is still participating.
D. - If you aren't part of the solution you are part of the problem.
The beauty of this forum is that you, you are in control of the programming. Don't like a derailment? Get it back on track. Want more show related threads? CREATE THEM! Have a question? ASK IT. You, my good forum friends control the programming. Dislike a thread? Ignore it. It's free programming, with no commercials
Now when is that next fracking update coming?
http://i.imgur.com/cUDwhgh.png - Out of curiousity I went back three pages, 43 threads (not counting the first two on the first page, and 15 per page). Of the topics relating to the forum or the game there are 29 topics. This does not include the pictures or good night or those, it can be argued they are part or not, so I did not include them.
Of these there are five add me threads in various forms.
So we are looking at about 63 - 67% of topics being about the forum or game. Really not that outrageous.
Stuart, I am glad you, Wild Ace and Rabbi posted, I think sometimes it is good to be reminded of certain things. You too make great points, and I am glad all of this was able to happen in civilized, constructive conversation.
And yes, please post when you want to discuss something. It may be a tad clique-y, but really most people are good and I think most will contribute to a thoughtful discussion, as long as it is presented in a thoughtful manner.
Okay, back to resumé action verbs
