this forum has gone to hell

I think rabbi and stuart make very valid points, I know I have definitely contributed to the lowering of the overall IQ here with some of my posts, but definitely not all of them.

As someone that has been coming here a long time this is basically that lull before the update that is becoming the norm with people maxed out and nothing else to talk about. I was serious when I said what topic does the OP want to talk of the more positive or negative....basically 99% of them have been discussed here to the point of boredom. Who do you want to see next, or any other variation of the what if topic. The new idea thread of street naming was very well received, not derailed because, well it was a new insight for people to discuss.

When the game first came out and pretty much through the Thanksgiving update people were still achieving new levels, there was still a lot to talk about and learn from. Not so much the case anymore, especially with the regulars that do come here. I will also say in defense that most of the time when I see a new, valid thread with a real question I think it is generally answered kindly and with respect, not always, but usually. I know I answered two last night. So this still is a source for information, but not as many people are asking those things at this moment.

So what I am seeing here is that there is not much to discuss about the game, there are no updates there is nothing too new to discuss, so basically it is a group of people entertaining themselves, getting to know one another and yes, just being silly. But, as you can witness from this post, when serious questions are posed I think serious answers and respect is given, not always of course ,but that is life with the internet.

If there are topics that you wish to discuss that are game related please propose them. But please, not a rehash of topics that have been discussed or theorized countless times over, read those posts first, then if there is something new or not covered bring it back.

Not trying to be rude, I hope this comes off as fair, as I said, I do see where you are coming from. When the next update happens the first page will be swarmed with in game topics again.

Walter, if you are referring to the dead person posts, nobody has yelled at you, just disagreed with you, and sometime more vehemently, but not yelled or treated you with disrespect. Seriously if anyone has treated anyone with disrespect it has been you and your sweeping statements of who the people are on this board, what their devotion is or is not to the show, what their devotion should be as according to you etc. It is okay to disagree and we can still get along as I think we have proven between us. I respect your opinion, it is nice you have your passion.

maybe that's why he only has 40 ish posts, i know i'd post more regularly and participate in this forum, rather than just read, if there wasn't such a low maturity level on this forum that results in thinking derailing threads is funny.

I'd have created several worthwhile threads but prefer not to as they'll never get anywhere or accomplish anything at this point in this forum's life. After being a moderator on another site for 4 years, it really shows how immature people think they can be on the internet.

maybe if this fad passes and the forum stabilizes again, i'll bother to come out of the woodwork more often and i bet more people would agree with me on that.

Just like everyone (so far) has been respectful towards mine and others opinions, I'm respectful towards theirs. I'm not going to report spam or anything against pretty much every thread on the first three pages because if people want to talk and get to know each other I'm ok with that.

One thing I would say though is that maybe all this socializing could be kept to one thread. That one that's something like "Nettangel showed her pic now you show yours" seems like a good one, I really don't think we need an individual thread for our favorite songs/movies/hockey teams/etc. That allows people to communicate with each other and not take up the whole forum, and so everyone's happy (excluding trolls).

I appreciate the more thoughtful posts here - zuzupj and mdfriend, you have summed it for for me quite well (as you so often do) so +1 for those. I also see your points, rabbikrustofski and stuartcurran and can even agree somewhat.

I agree that on topic threads should not be derailed, otherwise all our telling people to search is for naught.

However, I don't agree that one should hold back on starting worthwhile threads for fear of derailment. I'd love for you to share som of these ideas, rabbikrustofski. I think you will find that, even with the socializing regulars, we live talking about the game. It's what brought us here in the first place!

The forum is General Discussion, after all...

Edit: Good latter point, stuartcurran. I suppose we could do with less individual chatty topics and all stick to a few of the gathering spots. Perhaps my cohorts will agree?

I blame all these people that came in after the Halloween-Christmas updates. Damn hippies!

Before that, this forum was actually in a better state. Quite a few old regulars that originally started with myself are now gone. KrustyBrand anyone? There's a few more, but I don't remember their names at this very moment

I feel that when new updates come out, people are excited and do talk about the new content. However once those people max out and have gotten everything, they are left with nothing else to talk about. So that's when the off-topic threads start & yes there are those few individuals who thrive on these topics. But until there is actual moderation on these forums, nothing will be done.

I understand this, and it makes sense, but at the same time, one OT thread for hockey and songs and everything else is not realistic. I do not want to wade through 200 pages to find out who likes what hockey team. The nice thing about this forum, and really most forums that are about a single topic and not a help thread is that a certainty community forms and a closeness develops. Part of the human experience, we just cannot help ourselves. The downside is that cliques form and some people feel intimidated to post or ask things because they feel they might be ridiculed or derailed or any other number of things, that legitimately could or may not happen.

In the end what we have here is a group of regulars that enjoy spending inordinate amounts of time on a forum board talking to one another when there is not much else going on in the game.

I would ask you, what are some in game things you want to discuss? I do not mean that in any negative way, but if you feel there are things not being covered that you want to talk about, please bring them up.

It's the people that come on here with no idea what the simpsons are and just feel the need to talk about anything other then the simpsons.

The reason I was drawn to this board was it was a simpsons board and I love the simpsons.

Problem is we get people really into the game and when there is nothing to do they just go on about anything other then the simpsons or tsto.

These non simpsons fans are not adding anything to the game or this board. They won't last long and in the end us real simpsons fans will still be here.

None of this matters because there is no law here no mod to keep things clean. This board will just keep getting worse....
