This is how I approach it too. I play TSTO because I enjoy it and to enhance my experience I lurked and now participate on this forum. This forum has given me some laughs and a ton of inspiration for my Sprindfield. If someone has a problem with the game and they feel strong enough to post about it, good for them. But if it doesn't impact me or my experience, I let others with the same issues talk it out and I go on with my day.

I like this forum, and I really like the people here. Every time someone sets their sights on me as an "enemy", I research their posts. I have yet to find someone who hasn't posted at least one helpful, kind or funny thing. They may hate me with all the spite in their soul, but I don't hate them. Doesn't mean they can't get my goat. Just thought this might be the right spot to mention this :)

If you think about, forums are like little separate kingdoms on the internet. Each kingdom has a population of people, with a ruling elite in the form of admin or a mod. Some kingdoms are friendly, some are mean, it always varies. Generally speaking, the local population (regulars) form tight knit groups. Quite often these cliques don't take too kindly to a stranger arriving in town wanting to change the scenery. Why should they? In their minds, they are defending the kingdom they love and their fellow countrymen.

Years ago, people would duel at 20 paces to defend their honour or their opinions. Nowadays, people do similar with a flame war. Interesting really, for the first time the pen can actually be mightier than the sword because of the internet. After all, all we have here is our words. We vicariously exist on the internet because of our words, something people should consider more often I believe. It's sometimes difficult to stay impartial when you read a person's thoughts. However, this is the key to dealing with the internet I believe. The pen is only mightier than the sword if you allow the sword to cut you. After all, it's not a sword, it's just words. The only thing that gives a troll his power is ones reaction, the words are meaningless otherwise.

Ok, obviously your new like you said, but some forum regulars have been having constant issues with regular trolls. One in particular has nothing to contribute except complaining. Now I urge new members to have a look at this with open eyes. Some new members don't know the full story and are quick to jump to there own conclusion. Iam like this if I was a new member I would be like, look at these regulars having a go at this individual, obviously there is some prior disagreement iam unaware of. That IMO is how you have to look at these situations if you have no prior knowledge. I totally agree though, if you have an issue,by all means speak up and we would be more than glad to help, but if its just a rant and members are going to be hammered for there own opinion, then maybe this forum isn't for you.

This. Grammar mistakes bother me more than expressions of hate. Grammar abuses abound.

Trivial? Likely, in the big scheme of things... I've had too many jobs requiring proper grammar to ignore it.
